As a team we at Positive Steps are all deeply impacted by the effects Alzheimer’s has on individuals and their families. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia and affects around six in ten people who suffer with dementia in the UK. It is a progressive disease that affects an individual’s memory, communication, recognition, and motor functions. We have both staff members and individuals we support who are personally affected by Alzheimer’s and this is why, we as an organisation, have chosen to run Cardiff Half Marathon in March 2021 to raise money for the amazing charity ‘The Alzheimer’s Society’. The Alzheimer’s society has a vision of a world where people are free from the fear, harm, and heartbreak of dementia and we want to be a part of contributing to that vision.
Swapping their desks for the track our team of runners start their intensive 6 month training, on our running team we have… Our Director Dawn Fox, Rikki Elliott our Finance Manager, Our Care Manager Sammy Evans, Emma Luxton our Office Manager and our Care Coordinator Katie McLagan.
Of course they will need a cheering squad of supporters to keep motivation high during the race and we have just the people for the job… our Training Coordinator Karen Potter, Terri Richards our Care Coordinator and our MAPA Instructor Alexandra Quirke.
We welcome anyone and everyone who would like to support our runners on the day but we would appreciate it so much more if you could donate to this amazing cause instead!
And stay tuned to keep up to date with our runners training, let’s make a positive change together!
